Our clients fell in love with this Craftsman home in the Lakewood Balmoral Historic District, but we knew it would take quite a bit of work to bring back its original beauty and accommodate their lifestyle. This was a house that deserved a grand central stair, so we added that element opposite the dining room, reflecting the historic detail of the home’s front rooms. A large new skylight above the staircase now brings light through the second floor and into the dining room below. As you move towards the back of the house, the space opens into fluid kitchen and living spaces for a more modern aesthetic. Studio Nigro’s design also incorporated energy modeling and a reinforced roof for solar panels to bring this timeless home to the cutting edge of green performance.
