North Lawndale Prefab Housing

North Lawndale Prefab housing rendering

Studio Nigro’s concept for the Chicago Architecture Club’s 2006 Burnham Prize international design competition focused on developing a catalyst for creating jobs, affordable homes, and a more sustainable community in North Lawndale. We proposed a plan for prefabricated dwellings. These homes could be constructed with low-cost, eco-friendly materials and technologies. At the same time, they were designed to fit within the context of the neighborhood and its historic legacy of traditional Greystone buildings. Studio Nigro’s entry was selected as the first-place winner.
